Students, teachers and administrators from Tyrrell Middle School and Alcott Elementary School were honored this month at the CT State Capitol for their outstanding participation in the Governor's Summer Reading Challenge. Way to go!
Twenty-eight seventh and eighth graders attended Kids’ Speak, the kickoff to the Kids’ Court, at the UCONN School of Law. The students from Tyrrell, along with students from other schools in the state, engaged in discourse regarding relevant topics, such as bullying and discrimination, in preparation for writing essays to enter in the Kids’ Court competition.
Thank you to those 7th grade students who participated in the Giving Tree Service Project. All together we were able to raise $400 to donate to a special boy and family in need of support. Pictured are George Collazo and Noah Elliott who helped to make our tree displays for the "Giving Tree" 7th grade service project. You did an awesome job!
Cynthia Dias, a student on the Onyx Team, is pictured here at the award ceremony on Monday with Kelly Cronin. Cynthia was chosen to receive the Waterbury Youth Service Award for Volunteerism.
Members of a Capoiera Dance school came to Tyrrell as a world language cultural experience. Students joined in on the action, dancing a traditional fight- dance.
TEAM TYRRELL participated in and supported this year’s Wolcott Circle of Sports 5K Road Race. This was the 14th year of the race and this was the best one yet. We enjoyed a beautiful day, a great turn out, lots of food, a DJ, a Crossfit Challenge, and lots of sponsor booths. We all had a good experience at the race and we’ll be back next year. Special thanks to: Mr Kelsey for the T-shirt logo design, Mr. Simpson for keeping ZG safe on the race course while helping push him towards his best 5K time, Mrs. Tansley for announcing the race to all the kids at lunch, and Mrs. Tedesco for being the mastermind behind Team Tyrrell, tying it into summer reading and generating interest at the school. The students really enjoyed participating in the event with their teachers. Below are the race results if anyone cares to see them.
